Cameroun international striker Samuel Eto’o Fills completes his move to Chelsea from Anzhi Makhachkala on a free transfer. The 32-year-old has signed a one-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Eto’o moved from Milan, where he won the 2010 European Champions League under Mourinho, to Anzhi and then became the highest paid player in the world, reportedly earning £167,825 per week in 2011.
He won the Champions League twice in 2006 and 2009 with Barca and became the second player to have ever scored in two separate Champions League finals.
He joined Inter from Barcelona in 2009 for £40m in a player-plus-cash deal which saw Zlatan Ibrahimovich move the other way round and went on to win the Champions League in his first season under Mourinho.
Eto’o’s arrival increases Mourinho’s options in the frontline to four with the likes of Demba Ba, Fernando Torres, Romelu Lukaku ready to compete for first team shirt with the Cameroonian, while Germany international Andre Schurrle can also play in that position.
Eto’o is Cameroon’s all-time leading scorer and third most capped player, with 55 goals from 112 games.
Arsenal have confirmed that midfielder Mathieu Flamini, 29, has rejoined the club on a free transfer.
Flamini made 153 appearances for Arsenal from 2004 to 2008, before spending five years in Serie A with AC Milan.
The Frenchman will wear the number 20 shirt in his second spell at Arsenal.
Meanwhile Newcastle manager Alan Pardew expects midfielder Yohan Cabaye to make his first appearance for the Magpies against Fulham on Saturday.
The Frenchman, who has been the subject of a £10m from ‘The Gunners’, missed Newcastle’s first two Premier League games and Wednesday night’s Capital One Cup win over Morecambe.
Arsenal are yet to return with a second offer for Cabaye after their initial approach was rejected.
Vlad Chiriches Undergoes Spurs’ Medical.
Steaua Bucharest’s Vlad Chiriches will join Tottenham Hotspur as the London club has confirmed that a deal has been agreed to sign the defender.
Chiriches is expected to strengthen Andre Villas-Boas’ defensive options after Steven Caulker was sold to Cardiff City and William Gallas was released.
He made his international debut in August 2011 and helped Steaua end their seven-year wait for the Romanian league championship last season.
Romania’s Chiriches, 23, moves to White Hart Lane for a fee reported to be in the rejoin of £8.5m.
Chiriches and Roma forward Erik Lamela were both in London on Thursday for medicals ahead of proposed move to White Hart Lane.
Italian side Roma revealed on Wednesday that 21-year-old midfielder Lamela was on the brink of a £25.7m move to Spurs.
Spurs then confirmed on Friday that Lamela, who joined Roma in 2011 from River Plate, has joined the side.
The attacking midfielder’s move is expected to trigger the announcement of Gareth Bale’s world record move to the Bernabeu with reports suggesting that the Welshman has agreed personal terms with the Los Merengues.
The Spanish giants are still in discussion over the fee with a bid of £86m already submitted to Spurs- however the long-running discussion looks a formality as an agreement could be confirmed soon.
Champions League competitors Schalke have signed AC Milan midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng on a four-year deal after the Ghana international passed his medical at the German club on Friday.
“I am delighted to be back in Germany,” Germany-born Boateng said. “It is one of the best leagues in the world. The first contact was made a year ago but sometimes you have to wait a bit longer for the good things and opportunities.”
The 26-year-old, who has also played for Hertha Berlin, Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspurs and is the half-brother of Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng, joined Milan in 2010.
