Finally, We will have our own local Tom & Jerry Cartoon

Nigeria Film Corporation has concluded arrangements to start producing indigenous cartoon films for children to reduce over-dependent on foreign films.

Dr Danjuma Dadu, managing director of the corporation, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Jos, Plateau State that the films would be tailored to promote Nigerian culture and traditions. He said that the cartoons, which would be in the three major languages of Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba, would help mobilize the nation’s future leaders, to appreciate our heritage.

“Our children are completely hooked to foreign culture and we need to do something very fast to save them from forgetting our culture.

“Nigerians must show-case their rich culture and traditions for the young generation to appreciate them,” he said.

Dadu, who expressed concern over the production of substandard films in the country, noted that some film makers cheated Nigerians by producing and selling poor quality films.

“We in the corporation will not accept this exploitation and will soon start screening all films before they are marketed.
