They say each love is unique and special, however, when it comes to ending the relationship, everyone seems to follow the same script. We don’t mean to generalise, but the relationship didn’t work out, for whatever reasons, you still ought to allow your partner closure, and certainly not fob them off with a convenient excuse. Here’s a list of 5 most common excuses that insult everyone’s intelligence. Never use them on us women! EVER.

1) “I am not looking for a serious relationship”


Translated - Well, this one is mostly true; except, it comes with ‘not with you’ in the end. Sure, you were amazing on Day 1 and Day 10 but not so much on Day 25. And after all, nagging can only get you so far. So, how about we go separate ways. Ok, bye!
This one is not very believable. If you were not looking for a relationship, then why did you invest months or even years in one? A rather cowardly common excuse!

2) “You deserve better”

Translated - Honey, it’s not you but me who deserves way better than what I am stuck with right now. But out of the sheer selflessness of my heart, I’d rather take the entire blame on myself and save some drama, crying and kicking of things for other time.

Sorry, but girls can sniff a jerk miles away and your new-found nobility doesn't stand a chance in front of us. This common excuse is self-deprecating and should be never used!

3) “It’s not you, it’s me”

Translated - You are the sole reason that this relationship is not working out. But truth be told, I am trying to spare myself some trauma of having to see you make a spectacle in front of others.

Maybe your priorities have changed and they no longer include her. And even though it’s one of the most annoying breakup cliché, this one has the potential to be actually considered and believed by your partner.

4) “ I can’t give you what you need”

Translated - Yes, amidst work, booze, women, parties, football, X-box and other weekend trips, I don’t have the time, energy and money left to spend on you.

Yet again, if you deemed her fit, you would have found time for her. Best is to deal with the issue at hand and solve matters rather than delving into such vague and meaningless excuses.

5) “I love you, but I’m not in love with you”

Translated - It just simply means that I don’t find you attractive anymore. After all, variety is the spice of life.

This one is the most ambiguous and frustrating, as far as breakup excuses go. Unless of course you two are heavy duty soap opera fans. Most people don’t spend too much time in delving into the analytics of love. You either love someone or don’t. Go ON, find a more reliable reason!

The intricacies of modern day relationships are complicated as they are exciting. And while we can hardly predict the outcome of relationships, the least we can do is give it due respect. If you have to end it, by all means end it, but end it well.
