Clothing Genius Marc Jacobs Teams Up With Sephora to Create Marc Jacobs Beauty

Whatever Marc Jacobs touches turns to chic—this we've seen for years on the runway, through his ready-to-wear collections, and even with his fragrances, which are gorgeously designed in their own right.

But the designer recently decided to take his creativity to the beauty aisle, creating a makeup line with Sephora—Marc Jacobs Beauty—that's set to launch on August 9 in Sephora stores, on Sephora.com, and in select Marc Jacobs stores, according to WWD.

"I like the transformative qualities of fashion and fashion to me is not just clothing, it’s handbags, it’s shoes, it’s clothes, it’s hair, it’s makeup, it’s fragrance, it’s the whole ritual of making those choices, of enjoying the ritual, of making the choices that will tell the world who you want to be that day," Jacobs said. "We spent a lot of time developing materials and choosing the colors. We work with the technicians at the mills to achieve a certain effect, so we did the same thing with Sephora. The color palette tells a story and that story is based on a spirit. I chose different types of characters, such as an ingénue.”

So, what beauty loot can you expect from this fashion god? His collection consists of four categories: Smart Complexion, which includes foundations ($48), concealer ($39) and powder; Blacquer, which offers a precision pen eyeliner ($30), lash lifter, and gel crayon; hi-Per color contains lip products, blush, eye shadow, bronzer, and nail lacquer; and Boy tested, girl approved offers a lip balm, brow tamer, and concealer.

And to share with your man, there are three products that are unisex: Lip Lock Moisture Balm ($24); Brow Tamer grooming gel ($24), and Remedy concealer pen ($39), which is available in a universal brightening shade called Bright Idea.

“Putting this [beauty line] together and working on it with the team from Sephora was very much like putting a [fashion] collection together with my design team,” said Jacobs. "I start looking at different colors and different things and taking the color off of one thing and putting it on something else. There is a kind of 'I love that, I hate that.’ Or, I don't really like that, but I do love it when it's combined with this or next to that."
Unbeknownst to us, we've already seen his beauty line on Sofia Coppola at the Met Gala—plus, his polishes were worn on the models' nails at his last runway show.
